Donor Stories

It's Never Too Late!
by Mike Osborn

I was recently asked to meet with an elderly woman in my office here at the JAARS center. At ninety-three, she was a longtime supporter of Bible translation but thought it might be time to start thinking about her estate. After all, she said, “I’m just ninety-three, but my brother recently died and he was eighty-nine.” We talked openly about her family (she had never married) and the basic differences between wills, trusts, and gift annuities. I referred her to a Wycliffe Foundation representative and she promised to follow up with him. We prayed together, and then before leaving she retrieved a checkbook from her purse and asked, “What projects can I help with today?” I showed her a list of the projects JAARS is helping to raise awareness of, and support for, and after some obvious deliberation and prayer, she wrote a check for a gracious amount to help complete the Scripture Based Media for Africa (S71511) project. She said she had a CD coming due in October and, Lord willing, she would get someone to drive her for a visit to the JAARS center again.  Her driver that day took a tour and also became a contributor to the Bible translation movement through JAARS.

It is faithful stewards like this that honor God with their lives as evidenced by their gifts to his redemptive plan for the nations.
