Passionately Giving God's Word

Passionately Giving God's Word

Andy and Kate Ring have lived adventurous lives filled with journeys of love and perseverance. They spent 47 years serving mainly in Africa and Asia with Wycliffe, SIL (Wycliffe's primary strategic partner) and Seed Company.

The Bible is essential to the Rings. Kate said, "We have a supernatural love for God's Word." With such passion for Scripture and a desire to share it, Andy and Kate became Wycliffe missionaries.

The Rings began their work in Ghana and spent 17 years helping complete the New Testament in the Lelemi language. When they returned to the United States in 1996, they were devasted by the death of their eldest son who had been incapacitated by dengue fever. As they navigated their grief, the Holy Spirit prompted the Rings to return to Ghana. Though they were hurting and hesitant, they were also obedient.

When the Rings returned to Ghana, they helped four language communities work together as a cluster to translate God's Word into their languages. This project was groundbreaking, as it utilized a cluster project as an environment for training Ghanaian Bible translators to perform the translation work.

RETIREMENT AND BEYOND

When Andy and Kate approached retirement, they received a Wycliffe Foundation email that offered them help creating an estate plan. After responding, they were connected with a gift planning advisor who explained how planned gifts impact Bible translation. The couple was gently guided through the process and Kate noted "it was a wonderful blessing." After learning about their options, the Rings made a planned gift with Wycliffe Foundation.

The Rings hope to leave a legacy of faith to their children and grandchildren as well as a legacy that helps people receive Scripture in their language. One way they'll accomplish both is through their planned gift that supports Bible translation training just like the training their daughter and son-in-law received.

Andy said, "[Our] foundation for living is the Word of God and [we] want others to have it in their language." Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Rings have done just that and continue to have a tremendous impact on Bible translation.
